Block Schematic

The General Purpose Unit is a sturdy 19 inch 1 Unit frame made from 1,5 mm plated steel. It has a linear "quiet" mains power supply and four individually HF screened compartments, interconnected by a power supply bus and a 10 bit digital communications bus.

The GPU module mounted in the frame is fully encapsulated in a Faraday metal cage, and it is electrically isolated from the PSU bus by efficient on card low pass filters on all power lines. The interference between modules is extremely low, as signals have to cross a 6th order filter barrier and two Faraday cages. The result is an electrical isolation between modules in excess of 140 dB.

The 10 bit GPU bus enables reference signals from generator modules to run digital asynchronous devices in perfect controlled sync.

Due to the broad range of modules that already are available, the Yamaha Standard was adopted using I/O connections via industry standard 25 pole SUB-D connectors on the back panel. The pin configuration on the  SUB-D connectors depends on the module installed in the corresponding slot.
