The ADDA16 features low noise and negligible distortion, and  has an exceptionally open and natural sound, offering a clear and transparent gateway between the analog and the digital domain. It faithfully reproduces the depth perspective and the micro information from even the most delicate acoustic recordings, and it exhibits a firm, tight and solid sound from drums and bass. At the same time it reproduces percussive instruments with a superior transient willingness. The boring part is that it sounds so neutral and it performs so extremely well that the user tends to forget about its existence. The ADDA16 is a truly high performance modular AD or DA converter, offering excellent specifications and outstanding sonic performance. The digital part is based on the latest generation of converters, and the analog circuitry is based on a careful choice of a combination of JFET and Bipolar Junction technology. The front panel layout is straight forward and easily readable without hidden menus. A quick glance will immediately tell you the operational status of the unit, ideal for today's fast working sound engineers and maintenance personnel. The ADDA16 follows the TASCAM DB-25 pin-out standard. This means that the unit can interface directly to f.x a HDSPe card from RME, the older Digidesign 192 I/O and several others. Observe that the connector pin-out depends on the chosen configuration (detailed in the user manual/data sheet). When using the HDSPe interface cards, the system is expandable up to 192 channel on a MAC computer (96 inputs and 96 outputs simultaneously) and up to 96 channels on a Windows based PC (48 inputs and 48 outputs simultaneously) This combination works with almost all known audio software, like Pro Tools, Sonar Cakewalk, Ableton, Cubase, Nuendo, Samplitude, Sequioa, Reaper, etc.. The 1U box contains an ultra low jitter Word clock generator and up to 4 modules, each consisting of 4 channels of either AD converters or DA converters, which gives a total of 16 channels. Configuring is a breeze. Almost all combinations are allowed  (see a detailed description in the user manual/data sheet). The Word clock generator utilizes highly efficient synchronization circuitry that works flawlessly and elegantly in the ever changing environment of the modern audio and video studios, cleaning up the incoming sync and locking fast and reliably to an even wildly distorted house clock.
